Education in Kazakhstan
Foreign students are an integral part of the modern education system in Kazakhstan. Foreign students are the conductors of the Kazakh language and the traditions of Kazakh culture in their countries. The presence of foreign students in our university demonstrates the demand for our university, increases its rating. For more than 10 years, foreign students have been receiving education within the walls of S. Seifullin KATU. Basically, the contingent of foreign students is made up of students from post-Soviet countries, especially from Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan).
In the 2018-2019 academic year, 106 foreign students from 13 countries of the world studied at the university: the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (IRA), Germany, China, Russia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia and Turkey.
In the 2017-2018 academic year, 130 foreign students from 10 countries of the world studied at the university: from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (IRA), Germany, China, Russia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
In the 2016-2017 academic year, 113 foreign students from China, Russia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan studied at the S. Seifullin Kazakh Agro-Technical University.
Within the framework of the intergovernmental agreement between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of education, 14 students from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan study at S. Seifullin KATU under bachelor’s programs.
Most of foreign students (72%) study on the basis of intergovernmental and state grants, while receiving a monthly stipend. Only 28% of foreign students study on a contractual basis.
According to statistics, 10 students from the IRA graduated successfully in 2016, 8 students in 2017, 6 students in 2018, and 3 students in 2019. At the moment, within the framework of the intergovernmental agreement between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of education, 5 graduate students from the IRA study at KATU under bachelor’s programs at the agronomic and technical faculties. Students take an active part in the public life of the university.
Education at the university is conducted according to the credit system for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs in Kazakh, Russian and English.
Foreign citizens entering the university:
under the bachelor’s program – take complex testing
under the master’s program – instead of a foreign language, they pass the Kazakh / Russian language, as well as an exam in their specialty.
The university creates favorable conditions for obtaining a decent education: there is a scientific library, a faculty of social professions, various development clubs, sports sections. KATU named after S. Seifullin provides foreign students with places in a hostel. Almost all student dormitories have gyms, hairdressers, sewing workshops, and payment terminals.
Foreign students take an active part in the social and cultural life of the university. Various events are held at the university with the participation of foreign students: meetings, round tables, Olympiads, conferences and seminars.
To improve the knowledge of languages, the university conducts courses, if necessary, in Kazakh, Russian, English and Chinese.
